Who is this course for?

The Provide First Aid Courseand Provide CPR Combo applies to anyone seeking to acquire the skills and knowledgeto carry out first aid emergency response, life support, and management of casualties until qualified medical help arrives on scene. You are shown the recommended initial medical care response for a range of emergencies inclusive of: sprains, broken bones, insect and marine animal bites and stings,heat stroke to cardiac arrest, burn treatment, anaphylactic reactions and seizures and how to provide life saving CPR procedures using an automatic external defibrillator.

What qualification will I receive?

At the successful completion of the training program, you will receive a nationally recognised qualification HLTAID011 - Provide First Aid and HLTAID009 - Provide CPR.

What will I learn?

Recognise an emergency situation

  • Recognise an emergency situation 
  • Identify, assess and manage immediate hazards to health and safety of self and others
  • Assess the casualty and recognise the need for first aid response
  • Assess the situation and seek assistance from emergency response services.

Apply appropriate first aid procedures

  • Perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation(CPR) in accordance with Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) guidelines
  • Provide first aid in accordance with established first aid principles
  • Display respectful behaviour towards casualty
  • Obtain consent from casualty where possible
  • Use available resources and equipment to make the casualty as comfortable as possible
  • Operate first aid equipment according to manufacturer’s instructions
  • Monitor the casualty’s condition and respond in accordance with first aid principles.

Communicate details of the incident

  • Accurately convey incident details to emergency response services
  • Report details of incident to workplace supervisor as appropriate
  • Maintain confidentiality of records and information in line with statutory and/or organisational policies

Evaluate the incident and own performance

  • Recognise the possible psychological impacts on self and other rescuers involved in critical incidents
  • Participate in debriefing to address individual needs.

 Eligibility and Prerequisites

  • All candidates must supply a Unique Student Identifier (USI). Available at www.usi.gov.au
  • All candidates must be either an Australian Citizen, permanent resident, NZ citizen, or a humanitarian visa holder
  • All candidates must provide 100 points of Identification
  • Students must complete the online theory exam before attending.

How is the course delivered?

The course is delivered as mixed learning:

  • Online pre-learning and reading of 4 hours
  • Face-to-face training and assessment of 8 hours.

Course Duration

The duration of this course is a minimum 12 hours of mixed training.

Cost

$129. This includes: All course materials, face-to-face training and assessment, equipment used as part of the training. There are no other fees associated with the training program. All fees must be paid in advance of training or assessments.
